Sign Language Cafe Project

Saturday, June 8    10:00 - 12:00

Hands On Tokyo will organized a “Sign Language Cafe”. We would like to have more communication with hearing impaired persons. We hope this project helps provide an opportunity to learn and use Sign Language.

The “Sign Language Cafe” will be a fun workshop for learning Sign Language. In this project, we will have guest speakers, such as football players with hearing impairment, and have a talk session about their lifestyle and how to enjoy watching deaf sports. Also, we will learn useful phrases, “today’s special phrase”, and how to sing a song in Sign Language.

Event Guidelines: You must be over 13 years old and Basic Japanese communication skills are required. We will use “Signed Japanese (Manually Coded Japanese)” in this project.

WAMPERS PLUM GROVE PROJECT

The project will take place at a plum grove near NPO WAMPERS, located in Katsuura-shi. As part of a larger project, volunteers will assist in providing assistance in maintaining and cleaning the grove. Activities will include pruning, and removing debris from previous logging.

Event Guidelines: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

What to bring:
- Long sleeved clothes that are comfortable to move in.
- High boots (rubber boots) that can be dirtied
- Work gloves, face towel, mask, hat
- Insect Repellent
- Lunch
- Drinks (be advised that there are no stores nearby)

What to wear: Because we will be working in the grove and doing a lot of physical work, please wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty.

Blind Tennis (Iidabashi) PM(2)

Saturday, June 8    11:30 - 15:00

In this project, you will help high school students and recent graduates with visual impairment who are members of Tokyo Miracle Stars, Blind Tennis Club. You will also help the students enjoy the game of tennis and learn the skills necessary to play the game.

Meeting Place: JR Iidabashi station east exit

Time: Please meet us at Iidabashi Station (East Exit) at 11:30 AM, and we will walk to the site together.

Location: Tokyo Metropolitan Bunkyo School for the Blind (B2 Gymnasium)
Bunkyo-ku Kourakuen 1-7-6
7-minute walk from Iidabashi Station (Soubu, Touzai, Yurakucho, Namboku & Oedo Line)

What to bring:
- Indoor shoes to wear in the school’s gymnasium. (Shoes that have not been worn outside are preferred. If they have been worn outside, please wipe the soles clean before you step into the gym.)
- Towel
- Your own beverage (NO vending machines on site)
- A tennis racket will be provided

What to wear:
- Sportswear/ tennis wear. No Jeans.
- There is no locker room on site which you may use.

Event Guidelines: Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Experience of tennis (Beginner) is necessary.

Tango Therapy Project (Tsukishima) 2

Saturday, June 8    12:45 - 14:30

Tango will be taught by instructors at the elderly care center. They will support the elderly during the dance as to avoid any accidents. The dance will be very simple and easy. It will be a good activity to move along with music!

Meeting Place: Tsukishima Station Exit 2

Activity Location: Aioi no Sato (3-1-15, Tsukuda, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)

Event Guidelines: Families and children of all ages welcome! Basic Japanese skills desirable (left, right, stop, let's take a break etc.).

What to bring: It is important to bring shoes that are stable and comfortable. Heels or platforms will not be allowed.

What to wear: Comfortable clothes that are clean and easy to move around in.
