Seicho Special Support School - PC(3)

The Seicho Support School is a school for mentally challenged students, who have graduated from junior high-schools in the Setagaya Ward. In this project, volunteers will assist pupils with special needs in learning a variety of fun and practical computer skills. The course has been specially designed for persons with special needs and is a great opportunity to interact closely with the special needs community in a unique and fun way!

Event Guidelines: You must be over 18 years old and have enough energy to keep up with the teen-participants. Basic Japanese communication skills are required, like “Please click here” or “Let's enter” etc.

What to wear/bring:
- Please wear comfortable and appropriate clothing. Overexposure had arisen concerns in the past.
- Please refrain from wearing earrings, rings and necklaces with big stones and nail extensions, to ensure the safety of the children.
- Please refrain from wearing strong perfume, as some children may be sensitive to smells.

*Each student has its own characteristics (difficult to hear, difficult to speak etc.) Please check to the notice of the student you will be in charge from the volunteer leader.

English Conversation for the blind and visually impaired (2)

This is an English conversation class for about 15 adult students who are either blind or visually impaired. The lead teacher has developed a program fit for the blind. You will have the opportunity to chat with the students and share your experiences with them.

Meeting place: JR Takadanobaba Station, Waseda Exit
Event Guidelines: Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and be able to speak English fluently.

Blind Tennis (Iidabashi) PM(2)

Saturday, November 9    11:30 - 15:00

In this project, you will help high school students and recent graduates with visual impairment who are members of Tokyo Miracle Stars, Blind Tennis Club. You will also help the students enjoy the game of tennis and learn the skills necessary to play the game.

Meeting Place: JR Iidabashi station east exit

Time: Please meet us at Iidabashi Station (East Exit) at 11:30 AM, and we will walk to the site together.

Location: Tokyo Metropolitan Bunkyo School for the Blind (B2 Gymnasium)
Bunkyo-ku Kourakuen 1-7-6
7-minute walk from Iidabashi Station (Soubu, Touzai, Yurakucho, Namboku & Oedo Line)

What to bring:
- Indoor shoes to wear in the school’s gymnasium. (Shoes that have not been worn outside are preferred. If they have been worn outside, please wipe the soles clean before you step into the gym.)
- Towel
- Your own beverage (NO vending machines on site)
- A tennis racket will be provided

What to wear:
- Sportswear/ tennis wear. No Jeans.
- There is no locker room on site which you may use.

Event Guidelines: Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Experience of tennis (Beginner) is necessary.

Tango Therapy Project (Kodaira)

Saturday, November 9    13:00 - 14:30

Tango will be taught by instructors at the elderly care center. They will support the elderly during the dance as to avoid any accidents. The dance will be very simple and easy. It will be a good activity to move along with music! This time, we will have a Christmas-themed program.

Activity Location: Kinoshita-Kaigo Kodaira

Event Guidelines: Families and children of all ages welcome!

What to bring: Christmas Costume (if you have).
It is important to bring shoes that are stable and comfortable. Heels or platforms will not be allowed.

What to wear: Comfortable clothes that are clean and easy to move around in.

*From the Tango Therapy Association Japan: Argentinean tango works as a strong therapy for people that suffer from depression and elderly that look for an enjoyable activity for exercise.
