Gardening at Saiseikai Infants' Home 2

Motor Development Program - Gym #5

In this project, you will help elementary children with intellectual disabilities (not physical) get physical exercise. You will be paired with a special needs child and assist the child to perform the physical activities which are led by Special Olympics coaches.

The children will be divided into two groups - older and younger, and you may choose which age group you would like to join. In both groups, you will have an opportunity to play with the children and engage in various activities.

Bowling (Tokyo Port Bowl)

In this project, you will bowl a few games with young adults with intellectual disabilities (not physical). The athletes are part of the Special Olympics Nippon Bowling Team and many of them are serious bowlers who bring in their personal ball and shoes. However, you do not need to be a good bowler to participate – just encourage and cheer them on while you play.

The Site will change to Tokyo Port Bowl from May-July.
Please make sure the location of Tokyo Port Bowl beforehand.

Tohoku Project: 5/26-5/27

This project is 2 days long: Saturday, 5/26 to Sunday, 5/27.

Meeting Place: On 5/26, please meet us at 6:30 AM outside Villa Fontaine. It is next to Roppongi Itchome Station exit 2 (Namboku Line).
Accommodation: Toyoko Inn, Aizuwakamatsu Ekimae(222-1, Byakko-machi Aizuwakamatsu-city, Fukushima TEL:0242-32-1045)
Participation fee(transportation & lodging): 17,000 yen to be covered by the volunteer.

Schedule:
Activities will be held at Aizuwakamatsu city, Fukushima on both days.
Day 1: Supporting events and parades at "FUKUSHIMA Festival in Aizu".
* Volunteers will be instructed directly by Jinzai Kouryu Suisin Kikou, one of the host organizations of this festival.

Day 2: Spending a day in Aizuwakamatsu.

* HOT will arrange for lodging and transportation at the site.
* Project activities at the site may change depending on local needs at that time.
* Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; volunteers under 18 years old will need permission from a guardian to attend.
* All volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver form.
* After sign up, project details will be e-mailed to you by a HOT staff.

Tsukuba Blind School

In this program, you will hold conversations in English with high school students with vision impairment. The students are part of the “International Exchange Club.” They develop their own English Conversation Program -- materials, game ideas, conversation topics, etc. You will follow their lead and socialize with these students in English.

Balloon Art Seminar

This seminar is a pre-requisite to participate in the monthly Saiseikai Balloon Art projects. Volunteers will learn the basics of balloon art – inflating balloons, tying knots, twisting balloons, etc.

Guidelines: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.(The lessons are the same for each seminar.)
