Day Of Service 2010
Saturday, October 2

Every fall, Hands On Tokyo organizes an annual event called Day Of Service. This one-day event engages over 200 volunteers in larger-scale service activities to meet needs raised by our partners, and offers service opportunities for anyone looking to give back to their community in a tangible way. We look forward to serving with you and having a full day of fun.

This year's event will feature 5 projects:

  1. T-shirt Designing at Hakujuso Senior Home
Help children living at Wakabryo Children's Home design two hand-made T-shirts -- one for themselves and one for a gift. After they finish decorating, "travel around the world" with the children at the Internationan Festival at Hakusujo.  (Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.)
  2. International Festival at Hakujuso Senior Home
Some volunteers will set up booths to represent their country so that the elderly living at Hakujuso Senior Home and the children living at Wakabaryo Children's Home can learn about various countries while they "travel around the world." Other volunteers will accompany the children and the elderly as they visit each booth.  (Volunteers of all ages welcome.)
  3. English Language Program at Merrill Lynch Headquarters (4th floor)
Speak English and play games with  junior high and high school students with visual impairment. (Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and be able to speak basic English.)
  4. Bowling and Bingo Game at Tokyo Port Bowl (Tamachi)
Encourage and interact with the children living in various children's home in the Tokyo area, and students learning at the Japan Deaf School as they participate in a bowling competition. After the bowling competition, join us for a Bingo game to win a prize! (Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.)
  5. 3R Project at The British School in Tokyo (Shibuya Campus)
3R stands for Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Refill high-quality hotel amenities from a first-grade hotel in Tokyo into PET bottles and take them home or give them to friends as gifts. Guest speakers will be presenting to heighten environmental issue awareness.  (Volunteers of all ages welcome.)

There will be a closing event at Merrill Lynch Japan Securities Co., Inc.  (Nihonbashi 1-chome Building, 4th floor) from 6:00 PM following the projects, where we can gather to share about our volunteer experiences and make new friends. Refreshments will be available.

Registration for Day of Service has already begun. We hope that you will join us on this very exciting day.
