Hands On Tokyo "Day Of Service 2014"


This year, we are going to hold our annual Day of Service on October 19th (Sun) from 11 am to 3 pm at Iikura Elementary School in Minato-ku, Tokyo.  

Hands On Tokyo's Day of Service (DOS) is a one-day event where many volunteers come together to serve their community. This year, we have decided to hold the event at a single venue to gather our partners, volunteers and sponsors, and to serve the Minato-ku community.

What to wear:  

Comfortable clothes and shoes. DOS T-shirts will be provided for registered volunteers. Please note that regardless of the number of activities you sign up for, only one T-shirt will be given per volunteer.


Please note:

*Volunteers must be 13 years or older

*Transportation and lunch will not be provided for volunteers

*Please follow directions from your volunteer leader

*We hope you can stay for a simple reception for volunteers that will be held after the event from 15:00 - 16:00

*An automatic confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail you gave us when you registered as a volunteer. Please refer to the attached document.

*Please register at reception at least 15 minutes before your meeting time and receive your T-shirt.

Setup & Preparation:

*Setting up tents and booths



*Taking down tents and cleaning up booths


Event Guides / Security:

*Helping the elderly and children requiring assistance during the event.

*Patrolling and ensuring onsite safety (security armbands will be provided)


Petting Zoo:

*Helping participants play with the animals, handing out food for the animals


Yakisoba Booth:

*Preparing and serving yakisoba (please bring your own apron)


Bake Sale Booth:

*Cutting, serving and selling baked goods (please bring your own apron)


Cookie Decoration Corner:

*Helping children decorate cookies (please bring your own apron)


Arts & Crafts Corner:

*Helping children make bracelets and other arts & crafts


HOT Activity Room / Talk Sessions:

*Explaining Hands On Tokyo activities and Tohoku projects, helping people register as volunteers.

*Assisting talk sessions for four different projects, assisting with seating and helping run the sessions


Street Directions:

*Guiding visitors from the train stations to the site


"Experiencing the Dark" Room:

*Helping participants experience being visually-challenged and guiding them through an obstacle course
