Our Programs

Tokyo needs many volunteers to build a stronger city. Hands On Tokyo creates many opportunities for you to get involved and start changing lives. We welcome volunteers of any nationality, profession or ability to engage in hands-on projects that help children, adults and the community.

If you would like to volunteer, please register as a volunteer through our website. Volunteers registered through Hands On Tokyo are covered under a volunteer insurance policy, free of charge to the volunteers, through Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co.  Volunteers will receive basic compensation in case of injury during the volunteer project or while traveling to and from the project site. (Compensation of up to 5,000 yen for a hospital visit and 10,000 yen for a hospital stay, depending on the diagnosis.)

Once you have registered, please log in using your ID and password, and check out the activities on the "Events Calendar" page of our website. Please be aware that there are age requirements on certain projects.

A hallmark of Hands On Tokyo projects is that each project has a group of dedicated volunteer leaders. They recruit volunteers to their project, provide a short orientation for new volunteers, take attendance of volunteers on-site, and inform Hands On Tokyo staff of any questions or concerns that may have risen during the event. Volunteer Leaders play a vital role in creating a fulfilling experience for everyone involved by helping to bridge the gap between our staff, partners, and volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Leader, please send us an e-mail to info@handsontokyo.org with your name and program of interest.
